There are all kinds of ways to get involved in the GM Ringway – Greater Manchester’s walking trail – whether as an individual or as a business, community group or other organisation. These range from volunteering or organising an event with us to listing your business as a ‘Place to visit’ on the trail – or even sponsoring our inspiring and environmentally friendly project. For more details, see below, or simply get in touch with your own ideas!

We are currently recruiting long-term volunteers to act as ‘stage guardians’.
This exciting role involves looking after your local stage, or section, of the GM Ringway trail by:
• walking it occasionally to check that the route is open and problem-free;
• feeding back any issues to the team;
• checking that the app and mapping are accurate and up to date; and
• promoting the trail stage to your local community, perhaps on social media or by organising walks.
Don’t worry if any of this sounds daunting, as we’ll give you plenty of support. What’s more, there will be two stage guardians for each section of the trail, so you won’t be on your own. Email us on info@gmringway.org to register your interest.

To ensure we can offer even more events and guided walks, we need walk leaders and other helpers such as ‘backmarkers’, who make sure people don’t get left behind.

If you have experience of leading or assisting with walks, please email us on info@gmringway.org. We’ll support you all the way.

If you’ve been following us on Facebook, Twitter/X or Instagram, you’ll know that social media is a vital way in which we stay in touch with GM Ringway fans. Similarly, our monthly newsletters are a useful source of information for followers of the trail.

You can help us reach even more people in various ways:

  • by mentioning and tagging #GMRingway in your posts when walking or wheeling the trail
  • by sharing your photos with us, and
  • by helping us produce and post our social media, newsletter and blog content.

If you’re interested in the latter role, feel free to email us on info@gmringway.org.

Comfortable with technology? We are looking for one or two volunteers who can:

  • help us revise or add new content to our website, and
  • make changes to the content on our app when, for example, there are route changes or updates.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, email us on info@gmringway.org.

If there is any other way you think you can help us to get even more people walking and wheeling on the GM Ringway, then get in touch!

The GM Ringway is a high-profile environmentally friendly project that has already inspired the residents, visitors and businesses of Greater Manchester.

We are keen to talk to businesses, charitable trusts and other organisations whose financial support could help our project to thrive and grow over coming years.

If you’re interested in sponsoring or otherwise funding the GM Ringway’s activities, please email us on info@gmringway.org.

One of our key project aims is boost the local economy. For this reason, we are actively promoting local heritage attractions and hospitality businesses – such as cafes, pubs and hotels – on our website.

Get in touch if you’d like to know more, especially if your business or attraction is close to the GM Ringway route.

The GM Ringway passes through all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester and visits a wide range of natural sites and heritage attractions.

We are already working with local councils and organisations like the National Trust and Marketing Manchester on joint PR and social media initiatives. If you’d like us talk to us about similar communication and promotional opportunities, get in touch.

Our team is already collaborating with local councils, the GM Moving team and charities like Forever Manchester on guided walks and other events around the GM Ringway trail.

If you have an idea for how we can work with you on co-producing walks and events, email us on info@gmringway.org.

A simple way to feel part of the GM Ringway project is to attend one of our guided walks. For details of forthcoming events, visit our News and events page.

If you’d like to raise funds for a good cause while walking or wheeling on the GM Ringway, there are two options:

  • check out our News and events page to read about forthcoming collaborations; in summer 2024, for example, you can sign up for the Summertime Trek, raising valuable funds for Forever Manchester, Greater Manchester’s Community Foundation
  • organise your own charity walk on the GM Ringway; using resources such as the Go Jauntly app and by contacting us for support on organising and publicising your walk.

Don’t forget to share your experiences of any charity walks with us, by tagging #GMRingway on your Facebook, and Instagram posts.

If you want to organise a team-building event on the GM Ringway or a walk – or series of walks – for your community group, family or friends, you can:
